Acoustic insulation coefficient - Rw

The RW coefficient describes the difference between outer and inner noise level. Building constructors select sets of elements with the right acoustic insulation to achieve demanded insulation within construction as a whole.

Reducing noise from outside sources by a certain number of dB results in greater comfort inside.

Change of Rw coefficient does not relate to the comfort of the listener in a linear way. The rule is: decreasing the noise by 10dB is reduction of the perceived noise by half.
